What is smells like rotten eggs and corrodes your copper pipes?
An A/P story tells us that it’s Chinese drywall that was imported to Florida during the construction boom of 2004-2008. Tens of thousands of homes were built using this gypsum board. Apparently it has traces of strontium sulfide, which can produce a rotten-egg odor, along with additional organic compounds not found in traditional American-made drywall.
Now as if a rotten egg smell wasn’t enough… homeowners are also complaining that the fumes are corroding copper pipes, destroying their TVs and air conditioners, and even blackening jewelry and silverware. Some believe the sheet rock is also making them sick. Read the rest of this entry »
