How To Make An Auto Insurance Claim

Nobody ever wants to get in a car accident, but unfortunately, even if you are a safe driver the odds are in favor of us eventually being involved in some kind of car accident. Since panic, fear and emotion can take over quickly, it is wise to have a set plan of action in mind ahead of time. How important is this to do? It could mean the difference between making your claim experience either a breeze… or a nightmare.

  1. Contact your Atlanta car insurance agency immediately.

  2. Your  local agent will be your advocate every step of the way as you work with the claims department. The claims department will ask you to make recorded statements over the phone as they as you questions about the accident.  You should include as many details of the accident as you can. For example you would want to include the location, what caused the accident and the details regarding any injured parties. Were there any witnesses? List the names of any witnesses and keep their contact information in case the insurance company requires statements form them. Finally, don’t forget to get the all of the information about the other vehicles that were involved in the accident too.

  3. Take photographs. Photo are a great way to substantiate your claim. Keep a disposable camera in your glove box for this purpose. If you have a camera phone that will work also.

  4. Keep your own file on all records, pictures and support for your claim. It is a good idea to keep a log  of the dates, times, names and discussions that you have with your insurance agent regarding your claim

  5. Keep a copy of all bills, receipts and estimate that you receive.

  6. Be honest with your insurance company. Sad to say, but insurance fraud is the biggest reason why insurance rates go up and claims will be denied.
