How to get the minimum state required car insurance in GA

Money is tight for a lot of folks these days. Naturally, they are looking for ways to save on their GA car insurance too. Did you know that the only insurance required by the Georgia to drive on state roads is general liability insurance? More importantly, what does general liability cover?

Liability insurance is broken down into two different areas.

Now, let’s address something here… this is not to protect you and your car. Instead, it is designed to protect you against the claims and lawsuits that may arise for the repairs, lost wages, hospital bills, as well as the pain and suffering that are a result of the accident you caused. Your insurance carries a limit as to how much it will pay on your policy. Here in Georgia the minimum liability limits set are 25/50/25.

What do these numbers mean? These stand for: bodily injury liability of $25,000 per person, $50,000 per occurrence and property damage liability of $25,000 per occurrence.

Now, we want you to understand that these are the absolute MINIMUM requirements. This means that you personally may be required to pay all expenses above and beyond what your insurance pays. Talk to your GA insurance agent about increasing your coverage if you can afford to.

Property Damage Liability Insurance:

This pays for all the damage caused to the other persons property. Some examples of this would be to pay for fender to be repaired or a fence that you might have damaged. Remember, your insurance policy will have limits, so feel free to ask about additional coverage.

What happens if the person that hits you doesn’t have insurance or you are a victim of a hit and run accident?

Since this article is about the minimum insurance required to drive in Georgia you will not be covered unless you get an optional policy called uninsured or under insured motorist insurance. This will be discussed in another article.
